Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions at Avad Chiropractic & Wellness
What does a chiropractor do?
A chiropractor focuses on the relationship between the spine, nervous system, joints, and overall function of the body. Chiropractic care helps reduce pain, improve mobility, and support the body’s natural ability to heal—often without medication or surgery.
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
At Avad Chiropractic & Wellness, we commonly help patients with:
Low back pain
Neck pain
Disc herniations and bulging discs
Sciatica
Mid-back pain
Spinal stenosis
Chronic joint pain and stiffness
Headaches related to neck tension
If you’re unsure whether chiropractic is appropriate for your condition, we’re happy to discuss it.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is considered very safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor. We tailor care to each patient’s condition, health history, and comfort level, and we always prioritize conservative, evidence-based approaches.
Does chiropractic hurt?
Most patients find chiropractic adjustments gentle and relieving. Some people feel mild soreness after the first visit—similar to starting a new exercise—but this usually resolves within a day or two.
Do I need a referral from my medical doctor?
No. You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. You can schedule directly with our office.
What happens during my first visit?
Your first visit typically includes:
A detailed health history
Orthopedic and neurological evaluation
Movement and posture assessment
Discussion of findings and recommendations
If imaging or referrals are needed, we will discuss that with you before proceeding.
How many visits will I need?
The number of visits varies depending on the condition, how long it’s been present, and your goals. Some patients feel relief quickly, while others with chronic or disc-related issues may benefit from a structured care plan over time.
Can chiropractic help a disc herniation?
Yes. Many patients with disc herniations find relief through chiropractic care, including spinal decompression, gentle adjustments, and supportive therapies. Our goal is to reduce pressure on the disc and calm irritation to the surrounding nerves.
What is spinal decompression therapy?
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment that gently stretches the spine to reduce pressure on spinal discs. It is commonly used for disc herniations, bulging discs, sciatica, and chronic low back or neck pain.
Is spinal decompression safe?
When properly prescribed and supervised, spinal decompression is considered safe and well-tolerated. Not every patient is a candidate, which is why a proper evaluation is essential.
Do chiropractors only treat back pain?
No. While back pain is common, chiropractors also address neck pain, joint issues, posture problems, movement dysfunctions, and nervous system-related pain patterns.
Will I be adjusted on my first visit?
At our office you get treated the same day.
Do you accept insurance?
We don’t accept any insurance plans but we are more than happy to print a superbill that would have all the diagnosis codes for you to turn into insurance yourself.
How long is a chiropractic appointment?
Initial visits are typically longer (30 minutes). Follow-up visits are usually shorter, often around 10–15 minutes, depending on the type of care provided.
Can chiropractic help even if I’ve had pain for years?
Yes. Chronic pain often involves multiple layers—joint restriction, muscle tension, nervous system sensitivity, and movement patterns. Chiropractic care aims to address these layers over time, even when pain has been present for years.
Is chiropractic care appropriate for older adults?
Yes. Chiropractic techniques can be modified for age, bone density, and comfort. Many older adults benefit from improved mobility, balance, and reduced joint stiffness.
How do I know if chiropractic is right for me?
If you’re dealing with pain, stiffness, limited movement, or recurring issues that haven’t fully resolved, chiropractic care may be worth exploring. A consultation and exam can help determine if it’s a good fit.
